About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and highly analytical US Financial Controller to lead and oversee the entire financial operations of our US business.

Reporting directly to the CFO and working in close coordination with Matchbook’s global finance team, you will hold complete operational responsibility for US financial planning, reporting, cash management, internal controls, and tax & regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in regulated US financial services - preferably with direct exposure to CFTC regulated entities and/or derivatives markets - and  will have a proactive, hands-on approach to building a robust finance function from the ground up.

Key responsibillities

1. Regulatory Financial Compliance & Reporting

  • Lead all regulatory financial reporting to ensure full compliance with CFTC rules, regulations, and reporting deadlines.
  • Monitor and maintain capital adequacy, customer segregated funds, and reserve requirements in strict accordance with CFTC standards.
  • Act as the primary financial liaison for regulatory audits, examinations, and routine filings with regulators (CFTC, NFA, or related bodies).

2. Financial Operations & Management Accounting

  • Take full end-to-end ownership of the US general ledger, month-end close, and annual financial statements under US GAAP.
  • Develop, monitor, and refine daily/monthly financial workflows, including treasury management, payment processing, customer fund segregation, and reconciliation processes.
  • Design, implement, and maintain strong internal financial controls and risk management frameworks tailored to high-volume transaction processing.

3. Strategic Planning & Analysis

  • Partner with the CFO to establish the annual US operating budget, rolling forecasts, and financial projections.
  • Provide strategic financial commentary, key performance indicators (KPIs), and board-level reporting to senior leadership.
  • Manage tax planning, tax compliance, and local/state regulatory filings in coordination with external tax advisors.

4. Governance & Team Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with Matchbook's central Group Finance team to align reporting standards, treasury strategies, and group-wide consolidations.
  • Coordinate external financial audits and manage relationships with external accounting, legal, and banking partners.
  • Ensure ongoing alignment between financial practices, product roadmap updates, and compliance requirements as the US platform scales.

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA (Certified Public Accountant) active license required.
  • Experience: 7+ years of progressive finance/accounting leadership experience within regulated US financial services (e.g., brokerage, clearinghouses, fintech, or derivatives/futures platforms).
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of US GAAP, internal controls frameworks (SOX/COSO), and regulatory accounting standard operating procedures.
  • Hands-on Mindset: Proven ability to manage day-to-day accounting execution while operating at a strategic controller level.

Highly Preferred:

  • Direct experience working with a CFTC-regulated entity (Designated Contract Market, Swap Execution Facility, or Derivatives Clearing Organization).
  • Familiarity with high-volume digital platforms, sports prediction markets, and fintech payment architectures.

Key Competencies:

  • Uncompromising Integrity: High ethical standards necessary for handling regulated customer funds and maintaining regulatory trust.
  • Collaborative Leadership: Ability to work effectively across time zones with the international Group Finance team while independently driving US execution.
  • Clear Communication: Ability to translate complex financial and regulatory requirements into actionable insights for non-finance stakeholders and executive leadership.
